Awesome Non-Allergy Restaurants

As it is the school holidays there have been homework challenges set so that we do not go backwards in our learning during the break. For this latest challenge, I had to design a food chain.
I decided to make a non-allergy food chain as I have multiple allergies and do not want anybody to go through the same experiences as I have with food. I called my restaurant Sans Allergy as it is french for Allergy Free. I think I have made my food chain attractive for outsiders. Here are my designs for my food chain:

Kids For The Vote!

This term in writing we have been working on persuasive writing. We have made multiple pieces of persuasive writing over the term. One of the topics we had to write about is why kids in Nz should be able to vote. We were allowed to choose whether we wanted to do for or against. Here is m persuasive writing:

Have you ever wished that you could choose who your boss is? Have you ever wished your say would be considered? Well, today I am going to tell you why kids in NZ should vote.

New Zealand is a democracy and according to Wikipedia a democracy "is a system of government where the citizens exercise their power by voting" and Merriam-Webster defines a citizen as "an inhabitant of a city or town especially one entitled to the rights and privileges of a freeman". And as all citizens are allowed to vote then children should be allowed to vote too.

Secondly, I think that at it is at least slightly ageist because that kids are not allowed to vote as it is inferring that kids are not clever enough or not trustworthy enough even though some adults make really silly decisions.

A survey has shown that 40% of people who can legally vote choose not to vote so if children can vote then it will make up for all the people who do not vote.

Today I have told you how many people vote, why children should vot and much more. I hope you all agree that Kiwichildren should vote.

Do you wish you could vote? Do you agree with my opinion? If so please comment below. I appreciate your feedback.

Innovative Christchurch

This term for inquiry we have been making projects for DigiAwards. At the start of the term, we had a trip around Christchurch to boost our interest. Every year for DigiAwards the organizers choose a different theme for students to work on. This years theme was Innovative Otautahi. In DigiAwards there are four different categories. The four categories are storytelling, commercial, website and open. My buddy Scott and I were in open. We have been making an interactive map with information about different buildings in Christchurch. Please make sure you read the instructions in the top left corner of the map.  To get to the instructions push on the button of the computer with the arrow pointing go to the left and zoom into Christchurch and learn lots more about our beautiful Christchurch. We made our map with Google MyMaps. I think we have done a really good high-quality job with our map. Here it is:

Purposeful Persuasive Writing

In writing this term we are working on persuasive writing. Firstly we had to do planning on a persuasive topic of our choice. I chose to do why sportswomen should get more credit. Then we got to write our persuasive writing.
We then had to swap stories with someone in our literacy group and fill in some sheets on our buddies story. Here is what my buddy Taylor filled in for mine:
What my buddy Taylor filled in for mine.
We then started a new piece of persuasive writing on a topic of our choice using the following 4 progressions:
1. Independently edit and revise my writing for clarity, impact and purpose.
2.Support ideas with increasing detail and elaboration.
3. Use language features that are suitable to the topic, audience and purpose.
4. Begin to use literary features for effect when appropriate.
I did my second bit of persuasive writing on why maths is more important than writing. Here it is:

We then had to edit our story with the 4 learning progressions and then go back and edit the first bit of writing we did with the same 4 progressions.

Magical Multiplication Pictures

In  Mrs Atkinson's maths group this term we have been doing multiplication pictures. Multiplication pictures are made by a group of shapes on a page all having numbers in them. They are arranged so the areas intended to be one colour have only multiples of one number then the next area only has multiples of another number and so on. The numbers are arranged so when it is finished it makes a picture. We had 4 steps in making them. Firstly we had to print out a picture of our choice. I chose my picture to be of a football (soccer ball).
We then traced it onto a piece of plain OHP paper and some of us put our numbers on then but I did not.
The next step was to photocopy it onto a piece of paper and write our numbers on the right areas. My numbers are from the  5,6 and 7 tables.
Our next and final step was to colour in the picture to get our final copy.

If you have any confusion or have done a multiplication picture before please comment below. I appreciate your feedback.

Laudable Lorax

In literacy, we had to do a screencastify (a way of recording videos) with us reading a few pages from a Dr. Seuss book. I read a few pages from The Lorax. The purpose of this task is to reflect on when we read the same few pages from the same book as when we screencastified earlier in the term (this is also on my blog). I think I have improved a lot from earlier in the term. Here is my screencastify:

Have you read The Lorax or any other Dr. Seuss books before? If you have please comment below.
I* appreciate your feedback.

We then could choose something to write about with-in that type of writing. I chose to do a piece of persuasive writing on why football (soccer) is better than rugby. My work meets the success criteria because I have recorded all features of persuasive writing in my book and I have used them all in writing. Here it is:

Do you think football is better than rugby or do you think rugby is better than football? If you have something to say on the topic please comment below. I appreciate your feedback.
