Innovative Christchurch

This term for inquiry we have been making projects for DigiAwards. At the start of the term, we had a trip around Christchurch to boost our interest. Every year for DigiAwards the organizers choose a different theme for students to work on. This years theme was Innovative Otautahi. In DigiAwards there are four different categories. The four categories are storytelling, commercial, website and open. My buddy Scott and I were in open. We have been making an interactive map with information about different buildings in Christchurch. Please make sure you read the instructions in the top left corner of the map.  To get to the instructions push on the button of the computer with the arrow pointing go to the left and zoom into Christchurch and learn lots more about our beautiful Christchurch. We made our map with Google MyMaps. I think we have done a really good high-quality job with our map. Here it is:

Brilliant Beasts

On Mondays in literacy, we do book club. In book club we get given activities to do a book wr have read or are reading. This week I tried to summarise the book Fantastic beasts and where to find them in 6 words. We then got to choose a way to present it. I made mine with word art. The 6 words I used were beasts, fantastic, wizards, fiction and informative. Here it is:
I think I have done it to a high standard. Do you like Fantastic Beasts? Have you used word art before? If you have please comment below. I appreciate your feedback.

Purposeful Persuasive Writing

In writing this term we are working on persuasive writing. Firstly we had to do planning on a persuasive topic of our choice. I chose to do why sportswomen should get more credit. Then we got to write our persuasive writing.
We then had to swap stories with someone in our literacy group and fill in some sheets on our buddies story. Here is what my buddy Taylor filled in for mine:
What my buddy Taylor filled in for mine.
We then started a new piece of persuasive writing on a topic of our choice using the following 4 progressions:
1. Independently edit and revise my writing for clarity, impact and purpose.
2.Support ideas with increasing detail and elaboration.
3. Use language features that are suitable to the topic, audience and purpose.
4. Begin to use literary features for effect when appropriate.
I did my second bit of persuasive writing on why maths is more important than writing. Here it is:

We then had to edit our story with the 4 learning progressions and then go back and edit the first bit of writing we did with the same 4 progressions.
Do you like doing persuasive writing? Do you agree or disagree with either of my topics? If you do please comment below. I appreciate your feedback.

Glorious Geomitrocity

In maths this term we are learning about geometry. We are going to make a city out of 3D paper shapes.  What we are doing is called Geometrocity. I have done it once before. We have been given a slideshow to do all our planning on. First, we have to do a series of activities to do with identifying geometric shapes and features. Then we have to design our city from a birds-eye view before we can start making our city. Here is my slideshow for planning:

Do you like geometry? Have you done Geometocity before? If you have please comment below.

Brilliant Burgers

In Homebase Hauora, Mr Bell gave us a slideshow to fill in based on our favourite food. I chose to do mine on burgers. The questions we had to answer were who invented this food, what year was this food invented, how was this food first made, how is this food made today and recipe improvements and compliments. We then got to decorate our slideshow with pictures of our food. I think I did it really fast and to a high standard. Here it is:

Super Settings

In Mrs. Atkinson’s literacy, we had to do one of a list of tasks based on a book we are reading or have read. I have chosen to do activity 17 which is “Describe in detail the setting of your book and how it fits into the story”. I am doing this task on the book The Explorer by Katherine Rundell as I am reading this book at home. Here it is:

If you have read The Explorer please comment below.
